Probably the most known field sobriety test is the famous finger to nose test. What you are supposed to do is stand still with your legs and arms put together, close your eyes, and with your eyes closed, bring your index finger to your nose. The purpose is that this way police officers can see any signs of alcohol consumption that are shown in your body, like muscle tremors, body swaying or any other signs that might point to your intoxication.

The next field sobriety test is Nystagmus. This is like going to a doctor, the police officer will take a pen and they will put it approximately 10 inches from your face. They will move the pen from side to side watching for any signs of alcohol consumption, like involuntary eye tremors.There are also other tests, like counting the number of fingers the officer raised, reciting the alphabet or counting backwards. But, you need to remember that they are optional and you don’t need to take them. However, it’s sometimes better to take them, than to submit to a blood test.In addition, there is always the other famous walk and turn field sobriety test. This one is a little tricky for everyone, as it requires you to obey the officer’s commands. Many people fail this test, just because they are laughing, which may or may not be to do with drinking. The test requires you to walk a straight line with heel-to-toe steps and turn around and walk back, and at that time you have to obey all of the commands the officer gives you in order for them to determine if you are intoxicated. The officer is looking for lack of balance, unnecessary stops, a step off the line and such.
